Common fixing methods and usage scenarios of automotive wiring harnesses

The wire harness fixing design is a very important one in the design of the wire harness layout. The main forms are cable ties, buckles and brackets.

1 cable tie

Cable ties are the most commonly used in wire harness protection materials. PA66 is the main material. Most of the wire harnesses are fixed with cable ties. The function of the cable tie is to fasten the wire harness and securely and securely fix it to the sheet metal holes, bolts, steel plates and other parts of the body to prevent the wire harness from being damaged by vibration, displacement or interference with other components.

Although there are many types of cable ties, they can be divided into the following types according to the type of card sheet metal: card round hole type cable tie, card waist round hole type cable tie, card bolt type cable tie, card steel plate type cable tie, etc.

Card round hole cable ties are mostly used in places where the sheet metal is relatively flat and the wiring space is large.

Card waist round hole cable ties are mostly used for thicker trunks or branches of wire harnesses. This type of cable ties cannot be arbitrarily rotated after installation. They have strong fixed stability and are mostly used in the front cabin. The apertures are generally 12 × 6 mm, 12 × 7 mm)

The bolt type cable tie is mostly used in the place where the sheet metal is thick or the uneven wire harness runs irregularly, such as at the firewall, and the hole diameter is generally 5mm and 6mm.

The steel plate type cable tie is mainly used at the edge of the sheet metal to hold the sheet metal to make the wire harness transition smoothly, while avoiding the edge of the sheet metal breaking the wire harness. It is mostly used in the wiring harness and the rear bumper located in the cab. Generally it is 0.8 ~ 2.0mm.

2 buckle

The function of the buckle is the same as that of the cable tie, which is used to fix the protection harness. There are many materials such as PP, PA6, PA66, POM and so on. Commonly used buckle types are T-shaped buckle, L-shaped buckle, pipe clamp buckle, plug-in buckle and so on.

T-type buckles and L-type buckles are mainly used in places where the wiring space of the wiring harness is narrow due to the installation of external decoration or where the wiring of the wiring harness itself should not be perforated.

Pipe clips are mainly used in places that are not suitable for drilling or cannot be punched, such as engine bodies, which are generally tongue-shaped sheet metal;

The connector buckle is mainly matched with the connector, and is used to fix the connector on the vehicle body. Generally, it is a round hole, a waist round hole or a key hole. Buckles can only be used for connectors of a certain series.

3 bracket guard

Wiring harness bracket shields have poor versatility. The bracket shields designed for different models are different. They are made of PP, PA6, PA66, POM, ABS, etc., and generally have higher development costs.

The harness bracket is generally used to fix the connector, and it is usually used in the place where the different harnesses are docked;

The wire harness guard is generally used to fix and protect the wire harness, and is mostly used on the wire harness located in the engine block.
